About Course

This course provides an introduction to Aqeedah (creed), focusing on the foundations of faith as articulated in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Students will explore the concepts of Tawheed, Iman, divine decree, and their practical implications on personal belief and behavior. By the end of the course, students will have a clear understanding of the fundamentals of Aqeedah, be able to identify and refute common misconceptions, and connect these principles to daily worship and conduct.

What Will You Learn?

  • Understand the foundations of Islamic Aqeedah, including the meaning of Tawheed, Iman and Aqeedah.
  • Identify the categories of Tawheed (Lordship, Oneness in worship, and Names and Attributes) and avoid common forms of shirk.
  • Explain the definition, scope and conditions of worship (Ibadah) and how it connects belief to practice.
  • Recognise the pillars of Iman and the relationship between faith, actions and character.
  • Understand the concept of Divine Decree (Qadar), its elements and how free will and predestination coexist.
  • Appreciate the role of the intellect in understanding revelation and the wisdom behind the creation of Paradise and Hell.
  • Respond to common doubts and misconceptions about Islamic belief using rational and textual evidence.
  • Apply the principles learned to strengthen personal faith and cultivate a life of devotion and ethical conduct.

Course Content

Week 1 | Introduction to Aqeedah
Course overview & importance of Aqeedah; key definitions: Iman, Aqeedah, Tawheed. Relationship between Tawheed and the Shahada.

Week 2 | Tawheed: Oneness of Allah
Categories of Tawheed: Rububiyyah, Uluhiyyah, Asma wa Sifat; essence of worship (Ubudiyyah) and devotion to Allah alone.

Week 3 | Ibadah: Definition and Conditions
Definition, scope, and types of worship (ibadah); conditions for worship to be accepted.

Week 4 | Ruboobiyah: the Creator, the Sustainer, the Lord of the universe
Continuing the exploration of the three main types of Tawheed, this lesson focuses on understanding each category and examining the connections between them as the foundation of Islamic belief.

Week 5 | Reflection on Allah’s Names and Attributes
This reflection is not a matter of philosophical reasoning, but of sincere contemplation guided by revelation. By knowing Allah through His Names and Attributes, a Muslim’s worship becomes more mindful, his supplication more heartfelt, and his life more purposeful

Week 6 | Divine Decree
Understanding Divine Decree (Qadar); definition and elements of Qadar; balance between predestination and human's choice.

Week 7 | Deviation in Aqeedah
Deviation refers to beliefs that contradict the Qur’an, Sunnah, or the understanding of the early Muslims, such as denying Allah’s attributes, or likening of Allah to his creation.

Week 8 | Comprehensive Review & Reflection
Review of key Aqeedah concepts from the course; addressing common doubts and misconceptions; final reflections and discussion to reinforce understanding.

Exam: Due 11/12/2025
