Hikmah (حِكْمَة) in Arabic means wisdom — the deep understanding that allows a person to discern truth, act with justice, and live with balance. In the Qur’an, Allah tells us:
“He grants wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been granted wisdom has certainly been given much good.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:269)
At Hikmah Seminary, our goal is to nurture that wisdom, combining sound knowledge of the Islamic sciences with spiritual refinement and practical application for our time.
Hikmah Seminary is the teaching branch of the Center for Higher Islamic Learning (CHIL), a project of SALAM Islamic Center. After our founding term in Fall 2025, we are rebuilding the seminary intentionally, from the ground up — beginning this fall with a single flagship course, taught in person with depth and care.
Our vision is to grow, term by term, into a comprehensive seminary offering structured study of the Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh, Aqeedah, and Islamic history — combining sound knowledge of the Islamic sciences with spiritual refinement.
This fall (Fall ’26), we are offering one flagship course: Navigating Doubt: An Introduction to Islamic Creed — a 12-week evening course meeting Tuesdays at 7:00 PM, from August 11 to October 27. We are rebuilding the seminary deliberately, one excellent course at a time, and additional courses will be added in future terms.
All courses are in person only, held at SALAM Islamic Center in Sacramento, CA. We believe in the power of face-to-face interaction and the spiritual benefit of being in the same learning space as our teachers.
Our in-person classes are built around interactive learning: instructor-led teaching, in-class discussion, and time for Q&A. There may also be reading assignments, take-home reflections, or group projects.
This fall’s course is taught in English. The course text includes the original Arabic with facing English translation, so students engage the classical source directly.
The course is free. There is a one-time $20 book fee, collected at enrollment, which covers your personal copy of Introduction to Islamic Creed (distributed in Week 1).
Yes. For each course successfully completed, students receive a certificate of completion. As we grow into full program tracks, additional certifications and diploma opportunities will become available.
Register directly through the Courses page — select the course, enroll, and pay the $20 book fee online. Seating is limited and enrollment closes when the class is full, so we encourage you to register early.
